Types of Incontinence

Stress

Stress incontinence is leakage of urine caused by coughing, sneezing, or other sudden movements that put pressure on the bladder. Stress incontinence often results when childbirth, pregnancy, sneezing, coughing, or other factors lead to weakened muscles that support and control the bladder or increase pressure on the bladder, causing urine to leak.

Urge

Urge incontinence is the loss of urine after feeling a sudden need to urinate. Urge incontinence is caused by involuntary actions of the bladder muscles. These may occur because of damage to nerves of the bladder, the nervous system, or muscles themselves. Such damage may be caused by certain surgeries or diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, stroke, or an injury.

Mixed

As the name implies, there are mixture of symptoms from both Stress and Urge Incontinence.

Medical Conditions

Medical conditions like thyroid problems and uncontrolled diabetes, can worsen symptoms of incontinence, as well as certain medications such as diuretics.

How To Choose The Right Adult Diaper

1

Leakages

In order to choose an adult diaper that best prevents leaks, choose one based on your waist or hip (whichever larger). This will help ensure proper fit. Additionally, you may want to look for diapers that allow adjustment. You'll also want to check to ensure that the diaper is fitted centrally.
2

Rashes

Rashes are usually caused by the ammonia in the urine and stool excreted and moisture to be trapped within the diaper.
3

Comfort

Make sure the size of the diaper is just right, too small will make the diaper too tight, too loose will cause leakages. Skin under the diaper needs to be aerated to keep cool.
4

Cost

Higher quality diapers usually cost more, thus choosing the right type of diaper that will sufficiently suit its purpose will help to save cost.
